This Dharma Centre was established in 2008 in Toronto by a group of devoted former monks. His Holiness the Sakya Trichen bestowed the name “Sakya Choekhor Ling.” Since its founding, our centre has invited His Holiness the Sakya Trichen, His Holiness the Trizin, and other high lamas to give many Dharma teachings.
In July of 2023 His Holiness the 41st Sakya Trichen Rinpoche compassionately advised the members of Sakya Choekhor Ling: “Considering various aspects such as population and diversity, Toronto is a crucial city. Particularly, as the number of Tibetan and Himalayan people increases here, the followers of the Sakya tradition will also grow. Therefore, to fulfill their aspirations, a solid Dharma center is necessary here.” We are therefore in the process of raising funds to purchase our very own Dharma Center in Toronto. So far we have received significant support from our commuity and Sangha members. We are still raising funds and your donations are very much appreciated.
In light of this important guidance, we see the necessity for a Dharma Centre in Toronto that may serve those connected through karma and aspirations to the Sakya tradition, as well as for local people with deep devotion to His Holiness the Sakya Trichen and Their Holiness the Sakya Trizins. The centre would serve as a place to study and practice the Dharma. It will also support our community during times of death and misfortune. We aspire to fulfill His Holiness’s heartfelt request. Therefore, the fourth board of directors and the general membership of the Sakya Centre have collectively decided to purchase a new Dharma centre in the local area.
