
Sakya Monlam Chenmo
In July 2023, the Tibetan Canadian Cultural Center in Toronto, Canada became a vibrant hub of spiritual and cultural exchange as it hosted the 6th North American Sakya Monlam for World Peace. The event was presided by Their Holiness Gongma Trichen, the 42nd Sakya Trizin Ratna Vajra Rinpoche, and the 43rd Sakya Trizin Gyana Vajra Rinpoche. This significant event brought together the most venerable Sangha members, Practitioners, Khenpos, Tulkus, Nuns and lay devotees from the around the globe.
The 4 day Monlam program includes 3 days of Monlam and a long-life offering. The event was also live streamed on Monlam’s Facebook page and youtube channel. The event was free for all and served refreshments and lunch for the participants. Accomodation and meals are arranged for the Sangha members coming from different parts of the world.
In conjunction with the event there was a photography exhibition of HH Kyabgon Gongma Sakya Trichen Rinpoche’s miraculous deeds. It was such a blessing and awe inspiring to hear Dharma Talk for Youth By HE Avikrita and HE Asanga Vajra Rinpoche in English.
The event was concluded by By hosting a Gala Dinner which was attended by all Sangha members, devotees and political leaders including prominent Toronto MPs such as Bhutila Karpoche, Arif Virani and James Maloney. The Sakya Monlam, which translates to “prayer festival,” is a profound gathering that reflects the core values of the Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Rooted in the teachings of compassion and wisdom, this event aims to promote peace and goodwill among all beings.
The success of the 6th Sakya Monlam for World Peace in Toronto has laid a strong foundation for future gatherings. As global challenges continue to mount, the need for dialogue, understanding, and spiritual engagement becomes ever more critical. The event has inspired many to deepen their commitment to peace and compassion, both within themselves and in their interactions with the world.
The Sakya Monlam for World Peace stands as a testament to the enduring power of spirituality to bridge divides and foster a culture of peace. As participants returned to their communities, they carried with them not only the teachings and blessings of the event but also a renewed sense of hope and purpose in the collective journey towards a more peaceful future.
